Lorehaven News: March Back into The Wingfeather Saga!

March into a new book quest, listen to our 200th podcast episode, and get a very early preview of fantastical books to come.
on Feb 22, 2024

Good news, everyone!

Stephen here, Lorehaven publisher. I’m interrupting our usual newsletter “format”1 to say hallo and share some spring updates more personally.

In fact, if folks like this sort of thing, I’ll plan to do this more often.

Thank you for your heroic support of this small-yet-growing mission: to help fans, families, and many others explore fantastical stories for God’s glory.

If you have a moment, though, would you pray for our authors and staff creators? Pray that we’d be faithful to Jesus, healthy, and wise in how we care for our families while managing this outreach for Christian fans. Thank you!

New book quest for North! Or Be Eaten

First off, we just announced the new spring book quest. Just in time for The Wingfeather Saga season 2, my longtime friend Elijah David is leading our March excursion into Andrew Peterson’s fantasy North! Or Be Eaten. So if your household has Wingfeather Saga fans, you can join in the Lorehaven Guild.

  • Quest guide: Elijah David
  • Genre: fantasy
  • Skill level: age 10 and older

Also in the Lorehaven Guild:

  • Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender season 1 released today. We shall discuss all its elements.
  • And with one week, one day to Dune: Part 2‘s U.S. release, I’ve started a topic specifically for the Dune movie and books.

We keep this secure Discord server gospel-based and wholesome. My friend and Guildmaster Ticia Messing (homeschool mom of teens) runs a tight ship.

Lorehaven anniversary and podcast milestone

Secondly, I almost missed this, but last month, Lorehaven turned six years old.

Yes, spring 2018 was when we launched the original print magazine. Some of you all remember that quarterly publication. It was so shiny and fun—even if we could only offer copies at special events, rather than mailing it out.

Those 2020 lockdowns ended the print magazine, but drove us to try things like the podcast and weekly reviews. God was growing the outreach, because under my friend Zackary Russell‘s expert engineering, the Fantastical Truth podcast has helped many more fans explore the best fantastical stories for God’s glory.

We just hit 200 episodes. And we have bigger plans for 2024 and beyond.

Bigger plans for outreach to future new worlds

Thirdly, I could only hint about this in that last episode, but …

  • We’re planning Lorehaven books. Not fiction. (Many other publishers have this covered!) But nonfiction-about-fiction. Lord willing, these guidebooks will help more Christian fans, homeschool families, and others explore fantastical stories for God’s glory—just like we do daily in the Guild.
  • I, personally, have another book in the forge. It’s not a Lorehaven book. And not a sequel to The Pop Culture Parent. But I can’t talk about this yet. When I do, it’ll be more often at my personal site, EStephenBurnett.com.
  • We’re preparing for Realm Makers 2024 in St. Louis! Yet we’re also looking ahead to Realm Makers 2025. By then, we’ll have all these books released, plus my friend Marian Jacobs‘s TBD-titled nonfiction book exploring a biblical worldview of occult magic vs fictional magic.

All right, more than three acts starts to feel long. So I’ll end this for now. But for any questions, share below. Or join us in the Guild, tag us on socials, you know the rest. We’ll see you in new worlds …

Godspeed!
