What is a virtual writers’ conference?

It’s like a real writers’ conference—only there’s no specific location and you don’t actually go anywhere.

Alas, we’ve all read novels that feel the same way. Often that’s because the authors haven’t done well with their worldbuilding. Unlike a fantastic virtual writers’ conference, however, poorly constructed stories leave your imagination collapsed on sinking sand.

And for Christian authors, that’s not good.

Our worlds need beauty and truth founded on the foundation of our World-Builder.

That’s why on Friday, Nov. 7 (noon Eastern time), I am teaching a digital course available for the ACFW Virginia Royal Writers Virtual Conference:

Wise Authors Build Their Worlds Upon the Rock

Avoid the shifting sands of shallow lands with these solid ground rules for worldbuilding.

Fiction creators can get lost in a forest of fantastical worlds to jump into, from fantasy to sci-fi to supernatural versions of our own time. So how can we best build our own new worlds with originality and immersion? Let’s survey how our own Creator built His world and inspired His word about it. Then let’s apply those examples to consider how we make our own “subcreations” that not only captivate and challenge readers but also glorify our own Author.

Registration is open through Monday, Nov. 3!

More about ACFW Virgina Royal Writers Virtual Conference

As Christian creatives, we are called to not only tell a great story but to proclaim His Good News in the words we write and the stories we tell. Our hope is that God will use the Royal Writers Conference to extend your knowledge of the business and craft of writing, fill you with inspiration, and provide the tools you need to write for His glory.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a
new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
